Not just for the bereaved,

this is for the church.

In 2020, Todd & Melissa Shaffer lost their 18yo son, Tristan, to suicide. As they navigate their way through this new world they speak with 11 Christian couples who lost children to cancer, accident, murder, overdose, still birth, and suicide. These dear people validate the strangeness of grief, point the way to hope, and place our hand into the hand of the only person who can truly help -- Jesus.

"...when you look at lists of stressful life events, this is at the top.” Gail Saltz MD

This film is to be a transcendent experience forged from the seminary of suffering. It's not just for the bereaved, it's for everyone. Many bereaved parents say that through their child's death, God altered their way of thinking about life, so much so that they can't imagine being the person they once were. There is great wisdom in spending time in the severe house of mourning.

"The heart of the wise is in the house of mourning" Ecclesiastes 7:4

PRODUCTION UPDATE

Through the wonderful support of the Sullivans and the Browns, we were able to record 11 interviews at the While We're Waiting Refuge last September. These 11 couples gave generously of their time, and offered a courageous willingness to walk through the darkest days of their lives with us.

Through the assistance of The Five Talents Fund most of the interviews have been assembled and we will make them available on the Surviving Child Loss website in a few months.

There is still a lot of work to be done to write, produce, and complete the spine of the documentary. Until then, we plan to post small, easily consumable clips on our YouTube channel.
